PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN

                                                            WORLDWIDE MISSIONS

                                                PRESBYTERY OF GREATER ATLANTA

                                                       SYNOD OF SOUTH ATLANTIC

Welcome to the opportunity to participate in Worldwide Missions.  We are hoping that we can have 100% participation this year.  Presbyterian women have a long tradition of responding to the needs of others.  No matter how large or small our participation, we are asked to study the mission projects and share the mission needs with others.

We are reminded that PW really encourages us to design our own worldwide mission program.  Some opportunities will be introduced to you and then you can shape your own plan.  If you are a small church, you might work on the Networker Nets ($10) or the Ghana Note Cards ($8 for a pack of 4).  A medium or large church might choose the HIV/AIDS Home-Based Care Kits, IMA Medicine Boxes, or the Ghana Project along with some smaller missions.  In the spring we will offer Mother's Day Cards to benefit the Safe Motherhood Project.  Each year malaria threatens 24 million pregnancies and kills over 700,000 young children.

If you are not able to design your own program, we will send some material to help you make some decisions.  As Presbyterians, we work in partnership with 164 partners in 92 countries.  We are trying to combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, malnutrition, and special needs for children and hospitals.  As you can see, this is not an easy task.  We do pray that you can help in some way.

We hope to keep in touch with you through e-mail during the coming year.  We can keep you updated and share new information.

Mission Opportunities for 2004-2005 include:

Haiti:  Mobile Medical Clinics travel to one of 17 villages on the island of LaGonave twice a month.  Last year 1200 patients were treated, and 1500 children and 300 women were vaccinated.  Without the clinic, people would have to walk 4-5 hours for treatment.

The Goat Project provides a goat to a family for milk, meat, income for education, and improves living conditions.

IMA Medical Boxes provide medicine and supplies for Presbyterian hospitals and clinincs in Malawi, Africa.

HIV/AIDS Home-Based Care Kits provide caregivers with essential supplies needed to care for the sick and to train family members to become caregivers.

Networkers provide mosquito nets to families through Nickels for Nets and the Safe Motherhood Project.  It provides these children and expectant mothers protection from deadly malaria.

Gifts of the Heart Kits are sent wherever or whenever there is a need.  We can make Health Kits, School Kits, Baby Kits, and Heart to Heart Kids Kits.

Sewing, Knitting, Crocheting, and Rolling Bandages for Malawi and the Congo help supply clinics and hospitals with needed supplies.  We can make baby blankets, light quilts, baby gowns, afghans, bed gowns, knitted and crocheted baby caps, and rolled bandages.
